'New look' newsletter ...

Last month, Ashley attended a marketing seminar.

One of the questions asked was How many of you produce a newsletter, which you distribute?  Ashley’s hand shot up.

The next question was, How many of your newsletters are written for your audience’s benefit?  Ashley wasn’t so quick to put her hand up.  Since, we’ve reviewed what we’ve shared with you via our newsletters and decided we can do better … for you.

From now, send any painting related questions to us.  We’ll try our best to answer them and feature them in our forthcoming newsletters.  Other readers may benefit from the questions you raise.

The best question will win a 4 litre pail of Dulux premium paint, enough to recoat the walls within an average sized room.

So, to kick-start our ‘new look’ newsletter, in this edition, we provide our responses to two common questions we’re regularly asked.

Question: Should our carpet be replaced before or after painting?

In our experience, it is best to replace your existing carpet after painting is completed.

We take every precaution to protect your carpet, often with carpet protection film.  However, there is Murphy’s Law and accidents may occur.

So to minimise any undue stress on anyone, we ask that the new carpet be laid after painting is completed.  Always give the paint adequate time to fully cure first.

To ensure that skirting boards are appropriately painted, we ask that a strip of carpet be cut from the edge of this surface.

Question: What are some of the practical considerations during a full interior painting project?

With planning, we can do a few things to ensure your family and you stay comfortable.

If you have more than one lounge, vacate one for the painters and “live” in the other.  When painting in one is completed, swap.  This means family relaxation time is not compromised.

Re-arrange sleeping arrangements so that there is always one vacant room for the painters to paint.

During painting, all window treatments are usually removed.  We say “usually” because sometimes, if windows and architraves are not painted, blinds may stay.  The window treatments cannot be returned immediately.  This means a few days and nights with limited privacy.

A significant amount of dust is usually created during the preparation stage because sanding occurs.  Bedlinen must be removed prior to this occurring so beds are usually unmade.

Drop sheets and masking film go over the mattresses.

Even if you wanted to re-make the beds each night, inhaling dust remnants and lingering paint fumes may not be good for one’s health.

So, rotate through each bedroom until they are all painted.

Readers’ poll.  Did you find this information helpful?

Click on your choice below and type in 'yes' or 'no' in the subject line.  It will come back to us as return mail.  Of course, please feel free to share your comments with us.
