Frequently asked questions
How do you prepare the surfaces for painting?
Wall Treats recognises that preparation is the most element to ensuring your home or business premise receives a truly high quality finish. Wall Treats follows a five step process to prepare the surfaces for painting.
Step 1:
Wall Treats checks all furniture and fittings are adequately protected to ensure any paint spills do not dirty them.
Step 2:
Wall Treats checks to ensure all specified surfaces are clean, dry and free of dust, dirt and grease.
Step 3:
Wall Treats removes all old paint that is peeling, flaking or chalking so the new paint will adhere.
Step 4:
Wall Treats fills small holes and fine cracks then applies undercoat to these targeted areas.
Step 5:
Wall Treats sands all specified surfaces.
Do you remove wallpaper?
Wall Treats can assist with removing wallpaper. Please be aware that subsequent to removing the wallpaper, your walls may require skim coating to help ensure a smooth wall surface. The alternative is to replace old wallboards with new ones.
Painting will not rectify any existing imperfections on your walls.
If I need help with choosing the right colours, can you assist?
Wall Treats works with a network of interior designers and colour consultants, with a range of expertise. Wall Treats can put you in touch with these interior designers and colour consultants.
Do you only use the paint brand that we choose or do you substitute colours?
Wall Treats always only uses the paint brands and colours that your architect, interior designer, colour consultant or you specify. We do not colour match. We know that each paint supplier will use unique pigments so the depth of colour cannot be replicated.
How many coats of paint do you apply?
It depends on the situation.
If the surface has already been painted and the existing paint finish is in what Wall Treats considers to be a reasonably good condition, we will only apply a suitable undercoat on targeted areas where required (known as ‘spot prime’).
If the surface is bare or the existing paint finish is in what Wall Treats considers to be a deteriorated condition, we will apply one coat of a suitable undercoat.
Wall Treats always applies at least two topcoats of paint on all specified surfaces.
There may be times when additional topcoats are required to ensure adequate coverage. This generally occurs when the existing paint colour is dark and a new lighter paint colour is requested.

How much do you charge?
It depends on the situation.
We will need to visit to understand your requirements. We have a team of painters with a range of skills and experiences, whom we allocate to projects based on the job requirements. Each person in our team is committed to providing you a blue-chip service and a stress-free and enjoyable experience. We know “peace of mind” is important to you when it comes to your painting project.
My friend and I have similar sized houses. However, the painting quotes we have received differ significantly. Why?
The key components that go into a painting quote are: labour and paint. When equipment, such as, scaffolding is required in order to help us access all specified surfaces, the hire charges are also incorporated into the quote.
Labour accounts for the largest component of a painting quote. This is because painting is a laborious activity. Most of that labour should be focused on preparing the surfaces for painting. “Good preparation is 90% of a top job”.
Whilst houses may look to be of a similar size, not all houses are made the same. Some surfaces may require more preparation than others and this will be reflected in the quote. For example, a weathered timber surface will need more preparation than a brand new window architrave.
Paint is the next largest component of a painting quote. The brand of paint you choose to apply on your home will influence the cost. As a general rule of thumb, the better the quality of paint, the higher the price.
Another factor that can influence the cost of paint are your colour choices. Dark paint colours are generally more expensive than lighter ones. Further, if your walls are currently a dark colour and your new colours are light, more coats will need to be applied in order to ensure the existing dark colour is adequately covered. The more the number of coats required, the higher the labour cost.
Last, consider the number of colours to be applied to your home. Fewer colours means that larger quantities of paint can be purchased, resulting in economies of scale. More colours means that smaller quantities of paint can be purchased.
