We’re keeping our painting knowledge up-to-date and relevant.
We at Wall Treats are privileged to work with a wide variety of homes dreamed up and created by some of the best architects, designers, and builders in Auckland. Our work in blue-chip suburbs brings us into contact with a juxtaposition of old and new materials, from century-old villas to brand-new state-of-the-art builds.
Our broad experience means that we can offer the very best and most long-lasting paint job on just about any home that comes our way. It also means that we’re constantly learning new things!
One new material we’ve recently encountered is Abodo cladding. This beautiful timber cladding is designed to age with grace, and it is exceptionally durable and weatherable—not unlike our paint jobs! A villa we’re working on is being given a modern extension covered in a combination of Abodo Rainscreen cladding and bagged brick, a fantastic mix of old and new.
To demonstrate what goes into working with new materials, here’s the rundown of the learning curve we’ve experienced!
Working with Abodo cladding
For starters, beneath the rainscreen cladding are several layers to create a high-performance natural exterior timber surface. Our task was not a simple coat of paint on the top layer, but painting specific products which sit underneath the outer wooden decorative layer.
There was Hardies Easylap cladding and a total of 248 timber battens to paint, a layer at a time. These materials are also in contact with a lot of aluminium joinery, requiring careful masking for the best and cleanest finish.
As you can imagine, there are a lot of moving parts involved in a project like this one—and that’s where our project management skills are invaluable. To ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness, there has been significant coordination and communication with the builders and detailed scheduling on our end.
